Looking back and growing up

by Victoria Ramsey

I would like to have know you back in “72”
Things were so much freer then, my heart less black and blue
I am so much older now, my life is more constrained
No more pills and mushrooms and no more “Purple Rain”
The days are long, the nights are short
No memories made, my thoughts abort
The hair is shorter, the beads are gone,
the hips are wider, the wrinkles long
I lived my life, I had my fun, the world I got to see
I thank you that you waited these 40 years for me
The one regret I have, in the twilight of my life,
is that I met someone else and I became his wife.
