Lost childhood

Carefree days of hopscotch, hula hoop and ball
playing in the leaves we raked up in the fall
We’d take a roll down the hill and pretend it was a mountain,
once we took a skinny dip in the Courthouse fountain
I still remember the taste of pixie stix, ice cream in a cup,
bubble gum, candy necklaces, the sweet breath of a pup,
holding tiny kittens whose eyes could not yet see
these are the memories that I will take with me
