Macro Monday – Pumpkin

Cancer you are stealthy, you move in unannounced
Before we even know you’re there, you’ve already set up house
You’re greedy and voracious, appetite unquenched
You may bring me to my knees, I may beg for mercy
When Jesus takes me from this Earth, it’s not because you’ve won
its because He needs me
You will never take me quietly, I’ll fight you to the end
I’ll put up with the chemo, the radiation therapy
the bruises from the blood draws, the needles and IV’s
the surgeries, the CT scans, the weight loss and the scars

Cancer you are stealthy

Collision

Lord when it’s time for me to
journey home to you in Heaven
please don’t let it be the cancer that takes me,
I’m tired of our dancing and stepping on of toes.

Please take me home with dignity, let my
soaring heart collide with a shooting star.
Let the bright fragments scatter throughout
the heavens, lighting the way for others to follow.

Liquid Love

Cool raindrops kissing my cheeks.
Cold wind runs its fingers through my
hair and licks the drops from my face.
I’ve prayed for rain for nearly a year,
please wind let the drops flow.

The soil laps up the rain as it drips
from my chin, thirsty, greedy for the moisture.
It’s been a long, hot, dry year.
My skin, as thirsty as the soil, rejoices.

Autumn blew in today.
Slow down self centered wind,
stay and share these droplets.

Falling Stars

You took my hand and led me
out the door and up the path.
The sun was sinking lower,
still and dark beneath the trees.
We climbed the path in silence
stealing kisses as we walked.

We reached the top, a clearing,
you bid me close my eyes.
With your hand you set me down
upon the grass and took my mouth
with yours.

I breathed in your exhaled breath
and held it in my chest.
As your lips danced across my own
I parted my eyelids just a bit and gasped
as I watched the sky fall all around us.
