Winters Arrival

The arrival of the wind was instantaneous
and unkind. Eyes search the immediate
vicinity to find a place to hide.

Wind so strong and cold it’s like a sharp
slap to the face. It sucks the breath
from your lungs before you can
turn your face away.

The weather arrived as on galloping horses,
reins pulled up short and tethered, prepared
to stay awhile.
